History

For the past thirty-five years, Rob Harrelson has been advising local business owners, representing individuals and their families, and providing real estate title insurance services to businesses and residents of Miami, Shelby, Darke, Montgomery, and Champaign counties. A third-generation Troy resident and civic leader, Rob first joined his father, William (“Bill”) M. Harrelson, and Bob McCarthy, one of Bill’s law partners, in practice in the early 1980s. After Bill’s untimely death, Rob and Bob continued as practicing together as partners in a local firm for the last thirty years.

In 2011, Will Harrelson joined his father, Rob, in practice and has been representing clients in business litigation, estate planning, real estate, and small business/non-profit formation. In his free time, Will volunteers on several local non-profit boards.

In 2018, Rob and Will Harrelson departed their former law practice and started Harrelson & Harrelson LLP, a full-service law firm designed to offer exceptional customer service and cost-effective legal solutions. Bob McCarthy also joined the new firm of counsel. In addition to the legal services offered through their firm, they operate Midwest Ohio Title Agency and offer real estate title insurance through First American Title.

Robert M. Harrelson

From representing family farmers, to cutting-edge manufacturing corporations, Rob has represented a diverse base of local clients, large and small for over 40 years. Clients appreciate Rob's dedication to exploring favorable outcomes to avoid lengthy and costly litigation battles, honest evaluations of the risks and rewards of varying options, and ability to empathize. These skills help Rob provide options to his clients whether they are defending a shareholder lawsuit or attempting to settle a complicated property division in a pending divorce. When advising clients on transactional issues such as those concerning the purchase or sale of real estate, generational estate planning, business formations, buy-sell agreements, or commercial contracts, Rob is able to leverage his own experience as a small-business owner to find practical solutions.

William M. Harrelson II

Will represents clients with a wide range of legal needs: from young couples drafting their first will or buying their first home, to local businesses involved in contract disputes and complicated litigation. No matter the issue, Will works through each matter with a pragmatic approach that leverages the latest in technology and best practices to reduce costs, time, and uncertainty.

In his spare time, Will volunteers as a trustee on the board of The Overfield School, a Reggio Emilia-inspired early childhood program in Troy; the Lehman High School Foundation; and The Hundred Club of Miami County. He has previously served on other non-profit boards in and around Miami County.

Robert A. McCarthy

Bob McCarthy was a fixture in the Miami County legal community for nearly sixty years. He began his career in the United States Naval Reserves serving as a Lieutenant from 1956-1959. Bob then came to Troy, Ohio and served the City of Tipp City as the Law Director from 1966-1976 and also was the City Solicitor for Troy from 1971-1979. During his time in private practice, Bob helped numerous clients develop their estate plans to ensure family legacies and agribusiness entities continued for the next generation. After a long career as a partner in a general practice firm, Bob joined Harrelson & Harrelson LLP at its founding of counsel and retired on December 31, 2022. Bob passed away on March 18, 2024.
